AI Opponent: Easy, Medium, Hard and Expert Compared
The AI in PlayCascade calculates moves ahead. How far depends on the level – here is what is behind Easy to Expert.
The AI in PlayCascade uses a minimax search: it tries possible moves, scores the resulting positions and picks the best one. The levels differ in how far ahead it looks.
| Level | How it plays | Available |
|---|---|---|
| Easy | Looks up to 2 moves ahead – its own and your reply – then picks one of the three best at random. It still always plays an immediate winning move. | Free |
| Medium | Looks up to 3 moves ahead and plays the best move it finds. | Free |
| Hard | Looks up to 4 moves ahead. | Pro |
| Expert | Uses a faster search and looks as deep as it can within 3 seconds per move. | Pro |
Why no two games are the same
When several moves score equally, the AI picks one of them at random – on every level. So it doesn’t always play the same position the same way.
Which level suits you?
- Easy – for learning the rules. It deliberately doesn’t always play the best move.
- Medium – always plays the best move it finds.
- Hard – for players who set up cascades on purpose.
- Expert – the strongest level, for experienced players.
Track your progress: wins and losses are saved in the app’s statistics – so you can tell when it’s time for the next level.
